“An aperitif wine through and through, this Sparkling Riesling 'Sekt' opens with spicy aromas of peppercorn tree, lime jellies and crushed Makrut Lime leaves, and pomelo with attendant brown spices. Brisk coastal limestone and tide-pool, salt-swept, appears with aeration along with toasty bran notes. The palate opens with charming light frothiness, sweeping the taster along with a wave that turns into a surging tidal line of acidity. Crushed green apple, pink grapefruit, spicy fresh green pepper, lime flesh, brine, crushed shells … and small relief from this distinctly Gambier barrage with a touch of buttered and toasted brioche. Terroir
The fruit for the 2024 Riesling Sekt is sourced from maritime, cool climate Mount Gambier. The soil profile is dominated by metamorphosed limestone. The vineyard is organically managed by viticulturists Mary and Guy Stratford.
Winemakers notes
2024 was an ideal vintage in Mount Gambier, mild, dry weather during most of the growing season, punctuated by a few hotter days to allow for perfect ripeness and expression of fruit. Made in the Method Traditional style. Grapes picked on 12th March. Whole bunch pressed, light pressing, all free run juice, juice treated oxidatively. Fermented in old French puncheons and kept on gross lees for 5 months.
Early Disgorgement (December 2025): 15 months on lees in bottle adds complexity, the dosage of 3.5 g/L balances perfectly.
