Tasting notes
The nose is intense with candied orange, alpine flowers, heritage rose and greed cut grass.
The palate shows great texture which envelopes stone fruit and pink grapefruit. There is some red apple character there too. The acid profile balances the phenolics. A lush and mouth filling wine.
Terroir
The Darling Estate site sits at approximately 250-300 m above sea level surrounded by the Victorian high country. The vineyard is sustainably managed by Grace Darling with the intention to trial organics where she can. The soil is slightly acidic, red volcanic loam.
Winemakers notes.
We're thrilled to introduce our first Gewürztraminer, sourced from Darling Estate in Whitfield, King Valley. Hand picked on 7th February, crushed and cold soaked for 12 hours. Pressed to 700 L/T. A slow fermentation in stainless steel. We’ve retained a whisper of residual sugar to accentuate its delicate aromatic profile. Stored in aged French puncheons on gross lees for 5 months before bottling. No Fining.
