Terroir
The grapes for the Alpine Gewürztraminer come from a small parcel of land situated in Happy Valley, previously known as the Rosewhite Vineyard. The vineyard was planted in 1983, making it one of the oldest in the Alpine Valley. The vineyard is 100% dry grown and the soil is a weathered volcanic loam with some white clay.
Winemakers notes
This is the first year working with this beautiful fruit from Happy Valley. Given the cooler longer ripening year the grapes were able to achieve full ripeness and veraison. For me this site exhibits a more broad and full Alsace style of Gewürztraminer. Hand picked on 8th of March, the grapes were then whole bunch pressed at 700 L/T. Fermented in neutral puncheons, moved to barriques for resting on gross lees for five months. A hint of RS left for overall balance.
