2026 Whitfield Gewürztraminer

$44.00

Tasting Notes
Intense aromatics of candied fruit, white peach, and rose petals on the nose, alongside alpine grass and rosewater. The palate centers on white nectarine and pink grapefruit. There's a subtle, deliberate phenolic edge that gives the wine shape and weight, finished with bright acidity and a clean profile.

Terroir
The Darling Estate site sits at approximately 250-300m above sea level surrounded by the Victorian high country. The vineyard is sustainably managed by Grace Darling with the intention to trial organics where she can. The soil is slightly acidic, red volcanic loam.

Winemakers notes
The overall cooler 2026 season saw harvest dates shift roughly three weeks later than in 2025—a slow, extended ripening that delivered wines of striking depth and subtle phenolic texture. For Gewürztraminer, these conditions are ideal. Unfortunately in October 2025 the vineyard suffered a frost event, which meant yields were lower, so only 750 L was pressed.

Marking our second year working with the exceptional Darling Estate vineyard in Whitfield, King Valley, the fruit was hand-picked on February 20th, crushed, and cold-soaked for 12 hours. Pressed firmly (700 L/tonne), it underwent a slow, cool fermentation in stainless steel before moving to neutral French oak puncheons to age on gross lees for five months. Finished with a whisper of residual sugar to lift its delicate aromatics, this release balances textural richness with precise, cool-climate freshness.
